Try it out. That's the only way you'll find out.

We may love it, doesn't mean you will.

I love mesmers. Interupting is really fun to me and having to time your spells well really makes it a class you have develop skill at to use effectively. That said, once you develop said skill, they become an offensive powerhouse with all their armor ignoring damage.

I like rupting but dislike in-direct damage. So it's pretty fun in my eyes. I also like their armours and casting animations. But i would prefer my ranger (rupting and direct damage) over the mesmer.

I find mesmers to be more fun in pvp. I'm pretty sure they are good in low end pvp. They shine in RA and a mes/ele (fast capper) is also very good in AB!

I made a mesmer about a month ago and I LOVE playing her. It takes a lot more skill and adds a new dimension to the game. To play a mes, you really have to work at the timing but once you got that down, you can do massive damage! I vote you should make one! Plus with the new update, I think you'll see many more new builds with them.

PS: Female. Definitely female. Males look.....gay. Females look really beautiful, especially if you make a nightfall mes, their faces are superb.

I disagree with that. I also always had the male mesmers/paragons are "gai" mentality. But really nowadays, they have enough armors etc. to choose, so they can also look cool. Male primeval, obsidian, monument (pirate anyone?) etc.

Now i'm not saying that a female mesmer looks bad. But really, there are alrdy enough of those

Fun is all about personal preference and i dont think anyone can really say if you WILL of WONT enjoy it ^ tho for effectiveness?

pve: you have some pretty solid armour ignoring nukes, a savage AP+AE+pve skill abuse platform, and some reactive stuff some people all rave about

pvp, Vor is afaik still a bitch in low pvp and a classic dom bar is a satisfying and potent thing for a sadist to run, making someone rage at you could be your "cup of tea"

And to a certain parts of the community, if you think all Male Mesmer's all look "gay" then, you sir/madam, have no taste!

Looking roguish and manly is obviously the new "gay"..

I have a Ranger and Mesmer. Both have all primary class skills.

PvE, Ranger wins. Especially in hard mode.

PvP, Mesmer wins. Mesmer is fine in PvE normal mode but requires a more thoughtful play style.

Unless your AP assassin spamming, their damage can go either way. Much has to do with the player and the team/area... If you don't mind risk, interaction with foes, condition builds, disruption, or reactive skills then maybe give it a try. If your only goal is damage then try a necromancer, assassin, ritualist, dervish, or warrior.

I like watching my Mesmer punish those who dare harm her. Is that what you are looking for? If you are then you will have fun.

I really enjoy playing my mesmer. She is a mass interupting, damaging, cast spamming machine.

I wouldn't agree at all, tbh. Mesmers provide good disruption with Panic. Everything Rangers are good at is better done with other professions. Not to say they're bad at those things*, but Rangers aren't going to fill any key roles in a standard team without a skill buff.

*Although some things, like condition spreading, Rangers are the best at, but it just happens that condition spreading isn't a particularly effective way to kill things, especially not in HM.

I play mostly my ranger, but my alt is a mesmer. I had more fun with the ranger going through the game but the mesmer was a refreshing change of pace and quite enjoyable. I took them both up to GWAMM and I must say the mesmer is worth making. The mesmer rules in pvp once you understand it and your role.

Mesmer isn't a proff like assassin or warrior...or elementalist. Mesmer used to "make people angry and make their life harder" xD So rupts and empathy or backfire...They might sometimes rage you on whisp!
But listen to... You can also be me/e with FC attribute and fire in. I mean 12 (better is 16 or at least 14) and rest to fire. Or just if you dont want any elite, take 16 pts to Illussion and take Signet of Illussion, and your fire spells attr will be 16 (but here are ene-problems xD). Just try, don't ask.

It's fun, imo, to watch things kill themselves with Empathy and Backfire. Same could be said about Spiteful Spirit but Mesmers were born for psychological warfare

And when they catch on and stop casting under Backfire, you hit them with Wastrel's Worry and watch them kill themselves for not doing anything. (this works extremely well on players in my experience, sometimes WW alone is enough to paralyze them in fear)

And of course, not to forget the warm feeling I get when I see all those "!!"s fly thanks to Panic <3

As for female or male, I have both. My female is my main (r5 KoaBD) and the male is newly made Legendary Survivor. Gonna get him Monument Armor next

If you get decent builds on heroes and you know PvE good enough, you'll be good as a mesmer running fun builds. If not, you'll have a hard time with mes in PvE, especially HM, with limited viable build options and hard timing the rupts (thankfully the new Panic + Mistrust works well enough).
All in all, don't expect flashy animations or high numbers floating all around, but with the 'recent' update, mesmer is quite fun and, finally, useful in PvE.

You have to have a certain mind set to enjoy playing a mesmer. If you get more pleasure out of "psyching out" people rather than physically intimidating them, then mesmer is your true calling.
